Pretzel

Pretzel Time
It’s a bit early in the day for a craving, but when you want one, ya want one. My favorite is the Glazin Raisin from Auntie Anne’s. What’s yours?

Friday Update

Shirt Study

It’s been a good week. Let’s explore why…

  • Got my braces off – pyaw!

  • Jack Bauer killed a few terrorists – double pyaw!

  • My workouts have remained consistent, and I’ve lost 4 pounds. – pyawty on!

  • Piano lessons have been lots of fun. I’m learning a few songs by Copeland, Coldplay, and Ben Folds – pyawno!

  • I’m about to finish the world travel documentary Long Way Round. And I’ve got the first 2 discs for the sequel documentary about traveling down from Scotland to Africa – Long Way Down. Travelpyawcity!

  • Speaking of traveling, my Vagabonding book just arrived.- pyawcata!

I’ve reduced my list to the above bunch simply because I ran out of pyaw references. Got any good ones? Have a great weekend!

Birth Youth Wrath Death

Above is an animation I did for my Digital Photography course. I will be presenting this to the class on Tuesday. For more details, check out the video’s page.

First Drawings

Letters and Books 1-10

These are the first 10 pieces for my Life Drawing class. For now this is the subject matter I will focus on: letters and books. They are each 9”x12”, and varying in graphite and ink.

The overall consensus during my critique was that I need to continue emphasizing a background, devote more time to each piece, work on creating a better tonal range for each drawing, and continue in the direction of actual words instead of just random letters.

It’s a rusty beginning, but I look forward to improving throughout the semester. Thoughts?

Off to Oklahoma

Route 66, originally uploaded by gtocruzr.
Well I’m only a few hours away from heading out to The Sooner State. I can’t say I have any particular goals except to relax and eat some good American food. And maybe ride a horse. There is a possibility I’ll take a road trip to Dallas while I’m there, which sounds like an adventure.

I’m all about hitting up the local museums, so that’ll be fun for me too. If you can think of any suggestions on where to go or what to do, drop me a comment.

Also, let me wish a safe trip to my traveling friends, Steph, Chanti, Anne Marie, Alex & Kristel.

Love you all and I look forward to hanging out with you soon.

Nick of Time

Before you come at me with an angry tone of voice, talking ‘bout, “Hey man where you been? How come you ain’t blogging it up like you used to,” let me just give you an opportunity to view my little animation experiment above. Now, it would be misleading to suggest that this animation is the cause for my latest hiatus from blogging, but I hope you would forgive me in exchange for my attempt at eye candy.

For the past few days, I’ve been playing the role of tour guide for a young lad named Nick from Oklahoma. I say “young lad” but he’s actually 4 years my elder. Our exchange program has officially begun. For the next two weeks I will continue to provide him with things to do and places to see in my hometown of Miami. Then, come July 31st, I will pack my bags and experience Claremore, Oklahoma for two weeks as well.

So far he’s experienced the following: Lincoln Road, South Beach, Hollywood Beach, Alligator Alley, Coral Gables, Club Space, Jazid, a brief tour of the Delano, Salvadorian food, Colombian home-cooked meals, Gator bites, pizza, sea food, a Cuban birthday party (with mariachis!), and there’s plenty left to experience.

Needless to say, he’s already experiencing a bit of culture shock. I can’t say for sure what I expect to see and do in Claremore when my time comes, but I’m ready for some culture shock of my own.

Any suggestions as to where else I should take Nick while he’s in South Florida? I’m thinking of snorkeling in The Keys, taking an airboat tour of The Everglades, and checking out some local museums. Suggestions are encouraged!

Ok I’m Back

I’ve been gone for a while. So sorry. But things will be different, I promise.

I need to get back into the blogging habit, so I’ll start small. In fact, I need your input on this one. I received an iTunes gift card for my birthday. I’ve got room for 3 more albums to purchase, but I’m a bit puzzled on what to get.

Can you recommend 3 albums for me? I’m open to different genres and styles, however lately I’m listening to indie rock, folk, hip-hop, and experimental.

Thanks!
