Feelin’ Patriotic

sketch-empire.png

Can’t sleep. I had a sudden urge to create some art. I think I’ve finally figured out where I want to take my body of work. I want to produce positive propaganda. I want my work to filter the words of great thinkers and leaders through the use of typography in my particular sketchy style. It’s an opportunity for me to contribute to the Great Conversation with a raw artistic approach.

I think the political climate is such right now that my work could speak to millions if I just put it out there. Right now it’s important for me to share these ideas with my community, namely my school and my peers. I figure if there’s ever been a good place to express ideas, it’s in the university setting. Well, I’m here and I’m going to make the most of it. Let’s have a conversation, and if we can’t have a conversation let’s have an argument.

Who says school has to be boring?

No thanks. Ron Paul’s association with antifederal radicals and his opposition to District of Columbia voting rights, net neutrality, and the 14th and 16th Amendements are deal breakers for me, no matter how well he rides the libertarian side of the debate.

Each of the candidates seems to have, at least, one or two things that I can agree with. And every candidate, this time, has many things that I cannot agree with. Ron Paul falls at the bottom of the list.
I haven’t found that any of the candidates seem to be what we really need in this country.
I’m leaning toward John McCain, but I don’t think he really understands (or wants to understand) the problems of Illegal Immigration, health care, and education.
    It’s really a dillema.
You might do some sketches about all the candidates. I’ve done some Editorial Cartoons that included some glimpses of politicians.
Watch the Fox News website. From time to time, they ask people to draw, and send in, their views on the candidates or the news.
You did throw out the Ron Paul sketch to start conversation, or to get people to think, I gather. Which is what Editorial or Political cartoonists do.

One thing I keep in mind these days is that we never have a third option of perfection. It’s not as though our options are Candidate A, Candidate B, or Perfection. What’s important to me is the restoration of the dollar (gas prices anyone?), bringing our troops home from the countless countries we’re policing, and stopping the increasing growth of the Federal government’s role in our lives, among other things. That is why I have found a home in Dr. Paul’s campaign.

As far as the neo-nazi/skin-head articles go, they look like a bunch of ad hominem attempts to taint Dr. Paul’s reputation and get the focus away from the policies he’s proposing. At the end of the day he appears to always emphasize the importance of personal and economical liberties for every American individual. That firedoglake comment section has plenty of responses on the matter. I’ll take a closer look on the Amendments you mentioned and the voting rights issue.

I’d be curious to see what candidate appeals to you the most, Paulo.

Cecelia, thanks for your first comment here. I appreciate it. I’ll look into the Fox News sketch thing. Sounds pretty cool. I’ve always had an urge to produce editorial/political cartoons. This will give me an opportunity to try it out.

Today I’ll be presenting my larger, india-inked version of the sketch I posted for a critique. We’ll see how this conversation goes.

Don’t forget, tonight is the Republican Debate on CNN. We’ll see if these candidates address these concerns of ours.
