I’ve been awfully busy now that school started. I’m attempting to make good use of my time by working on my design projects at home and in school. Seeing how I’m pretty exhausted right now, I’ll just present an illustration I did last semester. The assignment was to juxtapose an image of someone “shaving while riding”. So I did a scratch board illustration of a businessman riding a shark to work. I hadn’t done a scratch board piece since high school and I was eager to test those waters (no pun intended, but I’m glad I said it). My brother was gracious enough to be the model. I’ll give you a hint, he’s the one riding the shark. The final piece is 12”x9”. It is colored digitally. Enjoy!

that’s really awesome, yo. i love the color you picked for teh shark.
So did you title this piece “A close shave with a shark”?
awesome.
it’s going on my orkut.
Just add my name and a link to my site. =)
Nice. If you ever do a variation on that theme, I’d recommend a woman shaving her armpits while riding a Skarkticon.
That was my second choice.
hey dave.. awesome art. i wish i could draw like you, but then again, i’ll give you a hard time coz i would have been your fierces competitor… hahahah…by the way, is there a reason why you chose shark instead of.. say, horse maybe?? :o)
i remember this piece…i was at work when you sent it…you are great
classical drawing is going pretty well….ciao
The point of the assignment was to get us as illustrators to really think outside the box in our concepts. A horse is definitely a step down from a car, but then again people have been riding on horses for centuries. Shark-riding hasn’t caught on quite yet.
Plus, what would cause a reader of a magazine to stop and really look at the illustration? Probably an image they never expected to see. As an illustrator, I want as many people to stop and stare at my piece as possible.
Noice! Swimmin with the sharks…
Yo homeboy… just FYI - i had to post another comic strip. Sorry ! And I was thinking about it … I cant stop man . its like me asking you to stop posting sketches and illustrations .. crazy!!
HAve agood one – i like the hairy shark getting shaved
