Simpsonism

David Uribe as a Simpsons character

This is as close as I could get to creating a Simpsons Avatar of myself. Aye Carumba! What do ya think? (Link via Brownpau).

A Fight to the Finish

I'll be there

I’m gonna do it. I’ve already told people and the majority have already given me disapproving or discouraging words to talk me out of it. But to me it’s no big deal, really. Come July 21st, I will compete in my first grappling tournament. I have 23 days left to train and prepare for it. This event, hosted by the North American Grappling Association (NAGA), will be held on a Saturday in Parkland, Florida, which is apparently near Fort Lauderdale. I need to do this event or else I’ll find another reason to delay it even longer. In the past, I haven’t entered NAGA because I was under-prepared or too busy with school to focus on it. Now I can focus the next 23 days to judo, jujitsu, conditioning, and so on. I’ve been a martial arts student now for 4 years and its about time I competed. Besides, it’s already on my list of goals and I intended on scratching it off, come July 21st.

So, if you happen to be a friend (heck, even an enemy) of mine, I invite you to come out to this event and watch me get down and dirty. I intend on having fun and winning. Let me know what you guys think. And yes, I know now that I have braces it will get complicated blah blah blah. I’ve already thought about that. That’s why God created a little thing called the mouthpiece. But thanks for your concern.

So whaddayasay? Wanna see me in action?

Feelin’ Feisty

Feist

Why am I so late in discovering the music of Feist? This is wonderful stuff. The song below is from her previous album, Let It Die (not shown above). Press play! Edit: Forgot to mention the song title. It’s Mushaboom. Thanks Nat!

Kristina Rey

Kristina Rey

Drew this one during a church discussion a few weeks ago. I like the way it came out without her eyes. Reminds me of that character from Sin City. Only less violent and less Elijah Woodsy.

Painter Experiment

Ponder

This is my first time doing a drawing on Painter X with a Wacom tablet. It’s a portrait of my co-worker Alex.

Life is Beautiful

It’s amazing how fast the days pass now that I’m enjoying each one. I have developed a routine that seems heaven-sent. A lot of influence has come from some of the blogs I’ve subscribed to lately, such as Lifehacker (Thanks, Dave) and Unclutterer (Thanks, Nat). They’ve provided tools to help me be most efficient with my time and living conditions. Tim Ferriss’ book continues to influence me as well.

Here are the latest updates:

  • Bought a handful of albums using Best Buy and Circuit City gift cards. You can see the list in the Allconsuming section on the right.

  • Got a free movie ticket for using my free Regal Crown Club card as I always do.

  • Began a new painting. This one is for my Grandma, but shhh don’t tell her, it’s a secret. I’ll finish it hopefully by this weekend.

  • Began reading The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell. It’s amazing.

  • Rented the first season of HBO’s Entourage. Hilarious stuff.

  • Took the Computer Competency Test and passed. Which means I’m finally getting my Associates Degree!

  • I’ve been consistently mastering Cinema4D at work via Lynda.com’s incredible tutorials. If you’re looking to learn any major piece of software, I would recommend using them.

  • Working out consistently, eating less garbage, and aiming to lose 1 pound a week for the next 25 weeks. Come Christmas I should reach my goal of 170 pounds.

  • Didn’t get picked for jury duty after 2 weeks of required calling in. Thank you, God!

I’m sure there are a few other things I’ve accomplished in recent days. Keep checking my Goals page for updates on my list.

I hope you’re enjoying your days off of school. I know I am.
