Funny Like HA-HA Funny

Been getting the urge lately to get back on stage and drop some of that original comedy again, be it stand-up or improv. I may attempt to pursue that during the summer. But for the next two weeks its nothing but studying and working. Been thinking a lot about my passions lately: Humor and Fine Art. Is there any middle ground? I’m hoping to find that out soon.

Heroes In A Half Shell

I saw TMNT last night. The only thing I was really hoping for was for this song to be incorporated somehow into the movie. Other than that, I guess it was a fun little flick. April looked really weird, though. And I wish Splinter didn’t sound so drunk.

Here is a list of shows I am thinking of attending. Let me know if you would like to tag along. The ones in bold are the shows I’m very interested in seeing, alone or not. The non-bold ones are shows I may attend if someone else wants to come along.

Giving It Away

I’ve been doing a bit of contemplating lately. I’m trying to form good habits, things that will benefit me and benefit others. One of the things that came to mind this week was the passage in Matthew 6 where Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (NIV)

I have a lot of stuff. Toys in shelves, stacks of paper, collections of pens and highlighters, old books from high school, art supplies, doohickeys and gadgets alike. I want to get in the habit of charity, not so much in the global sense that is really popular these days, but just on a personal level. I figure if I can do the small things easily, the big things won’t be so difficult when the time comes. So here’s my plan: each week I will aim to give away one thing to someone whom I think it will benefit. It could be a book to a friend, a marker to an artist, an album I think my boss might like, a Simpsons collectible to another fanatic, who knows?

Tomorrow is the annual community garage sale. My parents are asking me to start gathering things to sell. I’ll be leaving them a box of things I don’t care much for. They’ll sell it and give me whatever chump change they get in return. Chances are my dad will sell everything for a dollar a piece like he did last year. I really shouldn’t have given him my Art History book to sell for me last year. Coulda sold that thing online for at least $20 more. Don’t like thinking about it. I guess it’s as close to “giving it away” as I could’ve gotten last year. But alas, it’s a new year and time for a change. I’ll keep y’all posted on my progress.

Anything But Typical

I’m posting this video before it gets super popular. It’s definitely influence by Señor Spike Jonze. So a big shout out to him. I hope that Mute Math gets the attention they deserve after this video. I’ve seen them live about 5 times now, and they keep getting better and better. So enjoy and go see them live!

The Bird And The Bee

Went to the Lily Allen show last night with Gerry and Steph. Had a dang good time watching The Bird And The Bee open up for Lily. Equally as entertaining were the girls standing next to me who were beginning to call each other names as they tried to get in front of each other. Another highlight of the evening: Inara of TBATB blew a kiss to me from the stage. I have witnesses.

In other news, I got a haircut today. Not sure how I feel about it just yet. But it is nice to lose some upper-body weight, namely my head.
