Audibly Delicious

I’ve been wanting to read this book from the moment I heard it existed. It was apparently published in 2005 and I only saw it on the bookshelves in November of 2006. It still has that new-book price. Since I’m on a college budget, I’ve been hesitant to purchase it. Plus, I find that I don’t do much book reading these days, just don’t have the time. But one of my New Year Resolutions is to read more books. I’m aiming towards 5 at least. That may seem very low, but compared to last year (umm… 2.5?) it’s definitely progress. So what’s the next best thing to reading? That’s right, having the author read it to you. I’ve been toying with the idea of buying audio books for the past two years, but again the prices were always way too much. This time I took a look at audible.com and I noticed they were having a limited time promotion of $7.49 per month for the first 3 months, and then it’s 14.99 from thereon out. Basically I could get the audio book version of Teacher Man for $7.49. So I signed up.

I listened to an hour of it today and I am so glad I subscribed. Frank McCourt’s sincere Irish voice tells the story of his trials and tribulations as a high school teacher in New York. He alludes to his upbringing in Limerick and reintroduces family members and characters from his previous memoirs. I absolutely love it. At this rate, I’m going to finish the book in a few more car rides. I figure if I’m going to be stuck in Miami traffic, I might as well get a good laugh at poor Frank’s stories.

The next two books I plan on buying: Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and Jon Stewart’s America (as read by Jon Stewart himself).

Happy reading, everyone!

Audio Books are the way to Go … I read {heard} my first book at the gym last semester. It was Billy Grahms Biography “Just as I am” (courtesy of Rey DeArmas)- It wasn’t the best workout mix, but at least I got through it! I’m gonna be checking out Audible.com – it sounds interesting.
