The New Roots?

It’s always very very satisfying to know there are other hip hop bands out there. I’m sure there’s a good movement toward live instruments in hip hop, I probably just haven’t been exposed to it. In the meanwhile check out Gym Class Heroes. Pretty dope stuff. And if you’ve ever been a fan of an emo band, you’ll appreciate their song “Taxi Driver”. Believe me, you’ll appreciate it. They’ll be playing in Florida on April 15th.

If you know of any other hip hop bands, please let me know. (This means you, Enrique. Hehe)

While you’re there, check out Mae. Good stuff. They’ll be playing in (Gainesville) Florida on March 25th.

Another performance I want to catch: Los Lonely Boys and Santana. Word is they’ll pe playing at the American Airlines Arena on June 1st, but no tickets are yet on sale.

Alright, it’s not very often that I talk about the bands I like, so here’s a list of the other bands I’m enjoying these days (criticize all you want, I know what I like):

Anberlin (just missed ‘em)
Relient K
Roper (coming to FL in mid march)
Cruiserweight (Coming to FL on April 15th) They’re up there with Rilo Kiley and the Eames Era.

And there are probably quite a few bands I’m forgetting. Too bad. Listen to those above. And of course, don’t forget to tune into La Femme Digital on Thursday Nights at 1am on WRPG. She plays cool stuff.

Peace, y’all.

Feels Good, Don’t It?

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as figuring out a piece of code in Actionscript that saves you hours of re-programming and effort. Looking at my previous coding for the Thirdeye site I can only shake my head in shame. I was young and foolish then. But two actionscript books and quite a few flash projects later I can jump back into the original scripting and prevent any more confusion for myself in the future.

Ah, the simple joys in life.

Movie Interrupted

Why do people insist on talking during a movie? Now, by talking I don’t mean little comments here and there, whispered to the adjacent friend. By talking I mean laughing and holding conversations and playing with glowing cellphones and walking back and forth and kicking feet up and finding ways to make my blood boil. That’s the sort of talking I’m talking about. Last night I was put in the (un)fortunate position of complaining to the theater staff about a group of degenerates who wouldn’t quit talking. The manager eventually came inside and spoke to them and they ceased from speaking throughout the rest of the film.

There were moments when my heart was pounding so hard out of anger that I was sure my brother could hear it next to me. It’s a very difficult task to upset me. Looks like some people have been doing their homework.

I’ve Got a Case

I’m unshaven, my eyes are bloodshot, I’m exhausted, sleep-deprived, a bit thirsty, and constantly busy.

It must be Monday.

Upcoming Trip

My parents informed me recently that they are planning a trip to Colombia for the four of us. It’s been 11 years since we’ve been. There are a few key things I remember about our time there:

The weather in Bogota was super cold. I fell off the top of a bunk bed. My brother’s Florida Panthers hat was snatched by a hoodlum and we chased him down till he fell of his bicycle and we took him to the police. The ranch we stayed at was infested with spiders. We were followed in the mountains by a mysterious group of men, but we managed to hide for three hours until there was no sign of them. I experienced Magic Eye for the first time. I tasted mangos with salt and decided I liked mangos better without salt. And I made a song about all the dogs in the farm. I still remember the lyrics.

“Lupe, Timoteo, Yanco y Nene, Tony y Pelusa…” (repeat 20x)

My favourite memory: having a guava battle on the farm with all my cousins, then running down to the pool for the rest of the afternoon, and wrapping up the night by eating fresh arepas with the whole family outdoors.

Good times.

Well, time to get critiqued. I’ll show you guys the work soon. Peace!

What’s been up

Here’s a little summary of what has happened in the last four days (in no particular order):

I saw three movies for free at the Miami Film Festival.
I was formally invited to join a fraternity.
I received three cool shirts in the mail.
I had a discussion on marriage.
I fell asleep late.
I completed a project.
I skated.
I was frustrated.
I ate at the food court twice.
I entered a poster competition.
I applied for the AIGA.
I napped.
I went to work.
I went to school.
I went home.
I blogged.

Goodnite!
