Responsibility is no fun

Another Monday, another week at the office. This week is a bit different though. The bosses are out of town and I’m left to “protect the fort” as Manny likes to say. This is a good thing I suppose, having the opportunity to manage what comes in and out of the office for a week. Why am I so bummed out then? Well, it’s a little thing called Monday Madness.

The folks at WKBC have a bunch of fun activities planned out for the next few Mondays during the summer to keep us youth entertained. Today’s Madness event is a scavenger hunt. The large group of students are divided into teams and given a list of objectives and a camcorder. Their job is to film whatever is requested on the list, especially the bizarre ones like last year’s “Walk your friend down Kendall Drive with a collar on”, or “purchase an empty Slurpee cup at the nearby 7-11”. I was MADE for these types of videos! But here I am at the office, ensuring the welfare of my beloved employers. I want to cry out for justice! It’s a feeling of pure frustration and loneliness which makes me wonder where my priorities lie. I love this job, and love being able to create digital work in my own private space, yet I find myself wanting to socialize with people, which is a far stretch from staring at a glowing monitor for 7 hours a day. I suppose both areas demand a certain amount of energy and patience, two things I find myself lacking lately, but I think I prefer the burden of company rather the burden of privacy. I guess there should be a hefty balance of both, but right now I want one more than the other, which calls for some good whining.

Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

You whine most superbly. Now get back to work. :-) Isn’t maturity fun?

    That was some fine whining.
    7 hours a day… that’s it?
Even if you add an hour at the front end and an hour at the back end that’s only 9 hours out of a 24 hour day. give 8 to sleeping and you are left with 7 that equal to your amount of work time left to socialize…. throw a wife and kids in and then call me with your whining.
