Feelin’ uncultured

Lately I’ve had a real thirst for knowledge and aesthetics that isn’t present when the school semester is in. I have time to do more book-reading, music-listening, and movie-watching. Somehow all the music I own has started to feel a bit inbred. It’s the same old thing. The radio doesn’t help either. If they’re not playing another pop song, it’s another fifteen minutes set of non stop commercials. Because of this, I’ve been left with an ignorant view on good music. The fact is I don’t do enough research on what’s good out there. I’m sure whoever reads this has a bit of music and literature that they fancy, so please do leave some recommendations on what could keep my feet a-tappin’ and my mind a-moldin’ with pleasure. If anyone is willing to send me something via snail mail that would be much appreciated as well. Just a suggestion.

I just added a section to the left (courtesy of allconsuming.net) on the books I’m currently reading or recently purchased. It’s a free service that allows you to see who else is reading the same books, and you can read what kind of feedback they have on it. I’ll be adding a section on music and movies as well. Feel free to leave suggestions on movies as well. I’ve been slowly checking out movies on my list of classics to see.

If you’re interested in mailing me any spare books or cds or movies, please email me and I’ll gladly give you my mailing address. Also, take a look at the wishlist. Maybe you own something I’ve been keeping an eye on for a while but just haven’t had the time or money to buy. Thanks!

By the way, I own a huge collection of classic literature (Shakespeare, Melville, Dickens, Twain, etc.) but I don’t know where to begin reading. So once again, a point in the right direction will be appreciated.

I’d be more than happy to mail you a mixed cd of some true and good music. Email me your addy.

My favorite book is “The Scarlet Pimpernel” by Baroness Orczy. However, there are absolutely fascinating lists of books that I want you to read. I’ll work on that. =P

i forgot to ask you this when we spoke yesterday, so here goes: this semester i took a classics/womens and gender studies course and have a large collection of greek tragedies. if you’re interested in reading greek tragedies i could write out a list of the plays i have or if you have one in mind i could search for a particular play within my collection.

and an added bonus is that since i had to dissect these plays inside and out i’m up for discussion on them after you finish reading any.

Wow you guys are great. Thanks!

Grace, give me the list of greek tragedies you have. Chances are I might have some already and I could get started on reading them. That way when you come down to Miami we can have a pleasant conversation (or unpleasant. It’s your choice, buster) about the reading material.

Haha! I like the “Cheap Ways To…” book. That looks awesome, great for when you’re with some buddies and don’t have any money to do anything. ;-) Haha.
