What’s new

If you were in Florida in the past 24 hours I’m sure you heard non-stop ranting about the Marlins winning the World Series. This is exciting news. The streets in Miami were filled with a bunch of pan-slamming, yankee-hating, salsa-dancing, beer-guzzling, uniform-wearing, camera-hogging locals who shared the joy of victory. What surprises me is that these are all regular people who have jobs and families, with things to do on a daily basis. On the way to school I see many middle-aged men and women, wearing their suits and ties, carrying their suitcases with one hand as they check the watch on their other, quickly clamping forward in an attempt to get to work on time. These expressionless worry-consumed natives are those fans. Now one may ask how authentic this joy actually is, and the truth is I may never know. Who cares. Business is moving forward, shirts are being sold, money is being made. As long as this continues, there should be an overall feeling of satisfaction in our city, where business has been lagging behind lately. Let’s hope the Invisible Hand is spreading the chips around the table.

On another note, I’m in the process of a new design for the site. It’s way different from the present one and I think it best displays my aesthetic expression.

And since I’m in a good mood, here’s a picture of my cat Gena as Scooby gets camera shy behind her.

News = Movies

Screenwriters jumped on this one rather quickly. I’m guessing it’s going to be a comedy, though folks in Chicago are probably going to considering it a drama.

One Day

Today as I was enjoying dinner with my parents I realized something: One day I will no longer be young. As burdensome as that may seem I honestly look forward to it. As we were eating our steaks, my father told me how he used to be a salesman at his dad’s clothing store in Colombia, and how good he was at it, too.

“One day I sold a black shoe and a purple shoe to the same lady,” he boasted. She walked out of the store thinking it was in style to wear different colored shoes.
My father the salesman, I had no idea. Ya think ya know somebody. I’m accustomed to referring to my dad as the machinist. When people ask me what he does, I shrug. All these years he’s had the same job and I’ve never quite understood what he does. I know it involves airplanes though.

The dinner was very pleasant. For the first time ever, I asked my dad if I could open up with a small prayer before we ate and he was very supportive. “Of course you can,” he said. Eyes closed and heads bowed we thanked the Lord for the unity of our family, for the food on the table, and asked Him to provide an enjoyable evening and a safe trip home. I believe our prayer was answered. The three of us were in high spirits, quietly chewing our food with a few updates of our week. Work this, school that, and can you believe the Marlins.

These are the types of things I look forward to sharing with my family in the future. I long for the day when my wife and kids and I can go places together, sharing laughs and prayers. And when the evening is approaching it’s dusk, we can drive home together as the pinks and crimsons of the sky reflect on our smiles.

Niiiice

Today was, without a doubt, the most beautiful day in Miami since March. The sky was a rich blue, there was a comfortable breeze all throughout the morning and afternoon, and the sun was as merciful as it could be today. I drove home with an urge to nap. Now that I’m awake, I can relax a bit and listen to some Third Eye Blind.

If you don’t have it yet, I suggest downloading Rhapsody. You have access to basically any album/artist you can think of, without the inconvinience of having to fill up your hard drive and organizing music files. The interface is very user-friendly and this program gives you the opportunity to listen to music you always wanted to hear, but never had the access to, from The Clash to Mario Lanza to Gorillaz to Third Day. Great stuff. Email me if you’re interested, I have a special code for a free month.

To the mall!

I’m in dying need to replace my hacky sac. The poor thing got all torn up a few weeks ago and has been sitting on my cabinet with a bunch of blue tape wrapped around it to close the wound. It was bleeding little red beads the last time I attempted to play with it, so I decided to retire it for it’s own sake. Seeing how I made it home a bit earlier today, I’m going to hop into my car, drive to the mall, and get a brand new one for (hopefully) the same price. Three bucks! Niiiiiice.

Sorry for not writing on here recently. Things have been a bit hectic in my life. I think I’m going to stay away from the computer for a while, because my homework is suffering and everytime I think of a pending assignment I get overwhelmed with anxiety and stress. If there’s any prayer involved in this process, it’s that I’ll have the wisdom to create a proper schedule that allows me to make use of my time for work, sleep, and leisure. I am expected to do a few comedy sketches in the following weeks. I will keep you updated on that, and perhaps the things currently on my mind. It feels nice typing on here again, I feel bad for abusing the space and money I’ve invested in so much. Catch you guys later.

Yes!

!!

Where’d I put it?

I seem to have lost my sketchbook recently, though I can’t pinpoint the exact day it happened. I carry 2 sketchbooks with me all the time, my small black one (the one missing), and my slightly larger brown one (my WARP book). I made sure to put my address on both of them, but I neglected to put my phone number on the one I lost. It could be anywhere. Some of the places I think it may be are: one of many museums and galleries I visited in the past month, my friend Charity’s car, somewhere in school, or wedged somewhere on the metrorail. I tend to feel very nonchalant about losing things because they usually appear within a week, but this baby has been gone for over 2 weeks now and I’m starting to panic.
One of my goals for this website is to transform it into a digital sketchbook with images of paintings, websites, ideas, writings, poems, editorials, and anything else that spills out of this soul of mine. This is a much more difficult task when I lose the material I’m supposed to present. What a major bummer. Oh well, I have a few more sketchbooks here at home and I’m still working on my WARP book (now and then). Speaking of which, I’d better get started on some homework.

Oh yeah, YAY FOR THE MARLINS.
